Avilanian Construction Company Receives National Vanguard Status

For the eighth consecutive time, the collective of the Ciego de Ávila Construction Materials Company (Avilmat) has received National Vanguard status, and for the first time, the Lázaro Peña Third Degree Order, for its excellent economic and trade union results during 2025.

Amidst enormous difficulties for the sector in recent decades, due to the tightening of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government, this entity demonstrates a transformative capacity for resistance to overcome problems and grow.

Every fuel shortage, every spare part that fails to arrive, every limitation in accessing technologies became an opportunity to innovate, to substitute imports, to demonstrate that with discipline, creativity and awareness, more can be produced, said Dianelys Morgado Cabrera, Director of Business Management at Avilmat.

Avilmat’s productive merits speak to the consistency in the daily work of its 771 workers, who last year overcame major restrictions that prevented them from receiving more than half of the planned fuel and limited access to essential raw materials such as cement.

Despite such unforeseeable circumstances, the collective was able to achieve physical production at 132% for aggregates, 143% for stone, and achieved sales of more than 114 million pesos, with 136% compliance, and profits of 64 million pesos, representing 162% of the planned amount.

These important economic and productive achievements were attained by the collective of this socialist state enterprise while maintaining zero work-related accidents, certified accounting, and certification of the integrated management system.

Regarding social responsibility and community commitment, the collective understands that this is not an add-on, but rather the essence of its functioning, in line with the principles of the Revolution, the Party, the Cuban Workers’ Federation (CTC) and the people.

That is why Avilmat’s products were used in projects of social impact such as photovoltaic solar parks, asphalting of community access roads, remodelling of hospital wards, maintenance of a children’s home, and the sending of aid (200 tonnes of mortar, 85,000 pesos and more than 8,000 items) to those affected by hurricanes.

Also among the trade union merits, the entity’s section not only fulfilled its ordinary obligations but also overfulfilled the special contribution by 42,000 pesos, a figure that greatly exceeded the initial commitment, allowing the National Construction Workers’ Union (SNTC) in the province to achieve its financial targets.

The complex economic situation the country is going through was partly mitigated by this collective through the generation of 103 innovation projects, which had an impact of more than 2.5 million pesos; in addition to the creation of new products (plaster blocks, tiles, concrete strips, special mortars) that substitute imports and save foreign currency.

Presiding over this ceremony ratifying the high trade union status were: Julio Gómez Casanova, First Secretary of the Party in the province; Alfre Menéndez Pérez, Governor; Meybis Estévez Echevarría, National President of the Young Communist League; Niurka Ferrer Castillo, Provincial Secretary of the CTC; and Reinol Ramírez Vigaud, President of the OSDE Geicon.

During this meeting, a group of four workers were also recognised with the Jesús Menéndez medal for their extraordinary work merits.
