Díaz-Canel Leads Popular Workers’ Mobilisation

Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee and President of the Republic, is at the forefront of the rally taking place today at the Anti-Imperialist Tribune in the capital, the epicentre of the country’s celebrations marking International Workers’ Day.

The Cuban president travelled through the city alongside other representatives of the Island’s top leadership, members of the Party Central Committee Politburo, the State, the Government, the Young Communist League, mass, student and social organisations, the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Ministry of the Interior, among other officials.

Thousands of city residents also made their way from various points to the venue to take part in the celebration, thereby demonstrating the largest island in the Antilles’ commitment to peace and the defence of its sovereignty and independence, as was evident last week during the development of the «My Signature for the Homeland» popular movement.

The initiative of Cuban civil society, called for by the head of state during the event marking the 65th anniversary of the proclamation of the socialist character of the Revolution on 16 April, has become a national and international solidarity movement that carries Cuba’s truth to every corner of the planet.

This signature movement, which officially began on 19 April at Playa Girón with the signature of President Díaz-Canel himself and the leadership of the Revolution, spread to all workplaces, communities and institutions across the country, and has also been backed by intellectuals, artists, journalists and workers from various sectors, as well as by Cuban diplomatic missions abroad.
