In the most western province of Cuba begin the Extraordinary Plenums of the Provincial Committees of the Party.
Presided over by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, together with the member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organisation, Roberto Morales Ojeda, these meetings become spaces to reflect on the role of the leading organisation of society in confronting the complex scenario the country is experiencing.
A premise guides these meetings: each challenge, adversity and difficulty will only be overcome with the participation and commitment of all Cubans. Therefore, the plenums emphasise the importance of grassroots organisations and of the membership in current times.
Another objective is to elaborate strategies that more effectively prioritise tasks related to the defence of the Homeland, the stability of the National Electrical Energy System, food production –including the sugar cane-sugar programme– and the quality of services to the population.
These agreements were ratified in the XI Plenum of the Central Committee of the Party, which decided to postpone the holding of the 9th Congress to concentrate all efforts on these priorities and overcome the current situation of the country, marked by the intensified economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the government of the United States and by our own shortcomings. All of this constitutes the centre of political and ideological work.
