From the acid and most biting satire of the caricaturist Osvaldo Gutiérrez Gómez (Osval) and a poetic reading by writers from the UNEAC literature branch, local artists celebrate the 64 years of this organisation.
The Azagaya gallery is once again filled with graphic works by the caricaturist and designer Osval. Drawings made over several years that follow the thread of our contemporary history are the best critique of the reality we face and even the national one. Nothing seems to escape his restless gaze. There are the hardest moments of our shortcomings, the egocentrism of some officials; the ailment and scarcity, the blackouts and inflation. And much more.
31 works that are already well received by the public because they have been published in different media such as Invasor, Palante, Deteté, Escambray. And they have also deserved various awards in both national and international competitions. Osval is also the president of the Plastic Arts branch of UNEAC in the city of portals.
Following the inauguration of this personal exhibition, the writers of the Literature branch, led by the writer and founder of this provincial committee, Carmen Hernández Peña, held a poetic reading that brought together not only different ways of poetising the most personal reality, but also served for the enjoyment of guitar works by Oscar Solís, and that magnificent duo formed by Oristela Pérez Betanzos and Héctor Luis de Posada who performed pieces from the Cuban songbook by Mike Purcell, Marta Valdés, Noel Nicola, Pablo Milanés, among others; and Héctor Luis himself who sang El duende de la ciudad, dedicated to René Rodríguez, that Avilanian landscape artist who so adorned the streets of this city with his colours and spatulas.
The writers Eduardo Pino, Massiel Mateos, Leo Buquet, Leidy Vidal, Mayda Batista and Diana Sorí attended the poetic treat.
But the celebration for the 64 years of UNEAC did not remain only in this provincial committee; the artists of Morón, from their municipal headquarters in the Apolo cinema, also did their thing so that this date evoking such valuable figures as Nicolás Guillén, Alejo Carpentier, Eliseo Diego and the supreme creator, Fidel Castro, was not overlooked.
Morón, under the leadership of Arquímedes Romo, Lucy Safonts, Pedro Quiñones, and so many other artists from UNEAC and guests, upheld the name of a vanguard institution that does so much for the safeguarding of Avilanian cultural heritage.
Attending the Avilanian activity were, in addition to several UNEAC artists and party leaders, cultural institutions such as Musicávila, provincial culture, the literary promotion centre, Radio Surco and Televisión Avileña.
