Ciego de Ávila, July 25 – Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, toured key production sites in Ciego de Ávila province today, accompanied by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz and Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organisation of the Party Central Committee. The visit comes as the province prepares to host national celebrations for July 26, Cuba’s Day of National Rebellion.
Agricultural Recovery in Focus
At the state-owned La Cuba Agricultural Enterprise, the President highlighted the remarkable turnaround since recovery efforts began earlier this year. The farm has planted a record 2,857 hectares, primarily with plantains, with plans to produce 42,000 tons of food in 2024 and surpass 50,000 tons by 2026. The workforce has more than doubled from 600 to 1,573 employees, motivated by improved working conditions and incomes.
«These results are inspiring and set an example for productive centres nationwide,» Díaz-Canel stated, according to presidential reports. The enterprise has expanded into cassava, rice, beans, sunflower and sesame oil production.
Cooperative Success Stories
The presidential delegation visited the Paquito González Cooperative, where drip irrigation techniques and collective commitment have driven outstanding yields. The President emphasised maintaining this momentum: «We must never let La Cuba’s progress slip again.»
Renewable Energy Milestones
In Baraguá municipality, Díaz-Canel inspected the newly operational Santiago Roja Salinas Solar Park, delivering 21.8 MW ahead of schedule. This marks the third of five planned solar facilities in the province, which aims to meet all electricity demand through renewable sources, complemented by the Ciro Redondo bioelectric plant.
