The morning of Santa Ana

On that 26 July, «Death, with its impeccable function as the artisan of the sun», made history grow. The day felt like a farewell, different reasons for absence tried to dispel the worries of mothers and wives. The now fathers showered their children with kisses and all promised to return, many not knowing that this would be their last sunrise.

Some in rented cars, others in buses on route 35, left for Havana to carry out a mission they had no idea about, but which they were sure would contribute to changing the reality of Cuba.

That day everything turned red and black, the heroic blood shed before and after, forged the road to sovereignty, turned the chimera into reality and the dream into truth.

July 26, 1953 marked a milestone in the history of Cuba, a date that invites us to continue writing with fine ink unforgettable pages of history in our daily lives.

Today the Homeland is prouder than ever of its sons and daughters, of the men and women of the Moncada, who by dint of combat conquered a chimera, illuminating with their example the road to immortality.

Just like the morning of Santa Ana, the sun king displaced the stars earlier and radiantly illuminates the streets and the lives of the people of Avila, in a resplendent and historic dawn, full of optimism and love.
