15 policemen killed while confronting terrorists in Dagestan

Fifteen policemen were killed in recent terrorist attacks in Dagestan, the head of the Russian Federation’s Dagestan region, Sergey Melikov, said today.

The official also said on his Telegram channel that four civilians were killed by terrorists, including the priest of the Orthodox Church in the town of Derbent.

During the anti-terrorist operations, the forces of law and order eliminated six armed extremists and will continue to identify sleeper cells of radicals trained abroad, Melikov added.

He assured that the situation in the region is already under control of the security agencies and that the families of those killed and wounded in the events would receive financial assistance.

The head of Dagestan decreed three days of mourning in memory of the victims of the events.

On 23 June, armed terrorists carried out attacks in the cities of Derbent and Makhachkala in Russia’s Dagestan region.

The extremists set fire to two Orthodox churches, a synagogue and a traffic police station.

The regional Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under Article 205 (terrorist act) of the Russian Criminal Code.
