Almost a month after its inauguration, on October 2nd, the molecular biology laboratory located in the Roberto Rodríguez Hospital, in Morón, north of Ciego de Ávila, evidences stability in its operation and accumulates more than four thousand 150 PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) tests performed.
Tatiana Artiles Herrera, a specialist in Clinical Laboratory, in charge of the installation, highlighted that the ability and the fast learning of those who work there, mainly young people, made possible an increase in the number of samples processed faster than expected, reflects the digital site of Radio Morón.
Its operation, she said, is a strength to respond to the situation of the territory in the presence of coronavirus Sars-CoV-2 and for being close to the tourist destination Jardines del Rey, which allows the monitoring of all travelers who arrive at this enclave.
The facility is territorial in nature, and it will be able to support other nearby provinces, not only to determine the presence of COVID-19 but also, in the future, to study other cases from the molecular point of view to obtain genetic information and make more accurate diagnoses, she said.
The center has among its areas one for the extraction of the genetic material, another for the mixture, where the sample is put to react with different reagents, and a third one for the evaluation of the results.
Artiles Herrera highlighted the high technology of the equipment and its processing and automation capacity, as well as the requirements of sterility and compliance with the protocols to avoid contamination of the specialists or other areas and the environment.
In the midst of the increasingly tight US blockade against Cuba, the island continues to bet on scientific development and modernization of technology to ensure rapid and accurate diagnoses that contribute to combating the COVID-19 pandemic.
