Historical date of the women’s sector is commemorated in Majagua.

The 90th anniversary of the first celebration in Cuba of the International Women’s Day was commemorated in the municipality of Majagua in areas of Independencia and República streets of the main town.

At the site where the obelisk to the heroic guerrilla member Che is located, it was emphasized that the date was instituted in 1910 due to the initiative of Clara Zetkin at the second international conference of socialist women held in Copenhagen, Denmark, where she advocated for peace and equal rights.

«The celebration of the date in our country, which began in the midst of the Machado´s dictatorship, gained momentum after the Revolutionary triumph, and today gives us the possibility of recognizing the results of the work of our women in different fronts of production, services and defense of the homeland», Mirza Zequeira Gago, General Secretary of the Municipal Committee of the women’s organization, said in her speech.

Certificates from the hands of the main authorities of the territory were given to comrades with a sustained work in the actions of confrontation to the COVID-19 among other tasks and it was an opportune moment for the art instructor Jorge Luis Sagrera Gallar to interpret in premiere condition his song «Patria o Muerte Venceremos».
