Farmers from Ciego de Ávila bet on agro-ecology

In response to the country’s demand for food sovereignty, entities and cooperatives in the province of Ciego de Ávila are developing successful agroecological practices.

Farms in the peasant sector are leading the way in using this alternative that favors the land and the environment with a minimum of investment, according to specialists from the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP).

Worm humus, sugar cane, compost, crop waste, and cattle manure are some of the fertilizers used to combat pests and obtain healthy food in the face of the deficit of fertilizers and herbicides caused by the imperial blockade.

Aware of the need to satisfy internal demands and export products, avilanian farmers are striving to increase yields with more organic fertilizers, and the use of science and technology.
