In the midst of the resurgence of the COVID-19 and the intensified U.S. blockade to Cuba, the professionals of the Angiology and Vascular Surgery Service of Ciego de Ávila maintain achievements in the care of patients with diabetic foot ulcers and in the rest of the medical assistance.
Doctor Jorge Luis Carrera Martínez, in charge of the service at the Antonio Luaces Iraola General Hospital, told Radio Surco that they attend more than one hundred Avilanians with complex lesions in their lower limbs, who demand admission, so in view of the transmission event at the center they are taking extreme sanitary measures.
Distance, hand washing, correct use of the mask, and daily hygiene of the rooms are inviolable actions for the staff of that room.
On the other hand, Dr. Rolando Vega García, coordinator of the program for the use of Heberprot-P, said that in the middle of the current scenario, about 415 patients have been benefited this year with the Cuban drug, which has allowed reducing considerably amputations.
The specialist added that last year only two dissections due to severe ulcers had to be regretted and about 800 Avilanians received the treatment.
