As part of the cold planting campaign, the state farmers and peasants of Ciego de Ávila began the planting of tomatoes to complete more than three thousand hectares in the period.
The first areas will be used for consumption by the population from the end of the year on, for which, for the time being, organic fertilizers are being used to help the yield of the plantations.
In the hands mainly of the cooperative-peasant sector, the tomato plantations and its later harvest have as main recipient industries, willing to process high volumes, according to the behavior of the climate and the entry of fertilizers.
Considered among the largest producers of tomato and its derivatives, Ciego de Ávila has industries and units of national reference, among them the Plant of Ceballos and the Reinaldo Maning Credit and Service Cooperative.
