While Ciego de Ávila is going through the first phase of recovery, its cooperative movement is striving to increase short-cycle production to guarantee fresh food for the population.
The intercropping of crops and their diversification into areas of fruit trees characterize Ranchuelo, one of the highest yielding productive poles in the northern municipality of Chambas.
Orlando Pérez Pedreira, provincial delegate of agriculture, explained that although Chambas is not self-sufficient with its agricultural areas, it stands out due to the Agroindustrial Grain Company Máximo Gómez, with great weight in rice production.
Despite the lack of fertilizers, the grain producers have committed to continue the staggered planting of rice until the end of July, taking advantage of organic fertilizers in view of the urea deficit due to the limitations of the imperial blockade.
In the production center of Ranchuelo in the northern municipality of Chambas, there is a concentration of leading grain, food and vegetable growers, who are now busy with the spring season.
