Avilanian contribution to hyperimmune plasma collection program continues

Residents in Ciego de Ávila province contribute to the program of obtaining hyperimmune plasma for therapeutic purposes for patients infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus since that project began in Cuba.

During this stage of COVID-19 re-growth, several avilanian people who have overcome the disease, and have been suitable for the contribution, have voluntarily come to the call.

Neighbors from the municipalities of Venezuela, Majagua, and Ciego de Ávila are the ones who have contributed the most to the program, being Leidys Borrero Pérez, from the town of Júcaro, the first recovered patient to contribute.

As this method is, so far, the only available source of antibodies for immediate use against the virus, the project takes relevance and, according to experts, the candidate can make up to four donations and the derivatives of each operation can be stored in freezing for up to one year.
