Punta Alegre and Punta San Juan, in the north of Ciego de Avila, are coastal areas currently in constant revolution after Hurricane Irma, which devastated most of the housing stock.
Although a lot remains to be done to finish with the total and partial collapsed houses, many of them and state facilities have already recovered the strength of the inhabitants of the coast and the support of organizations in the municipality of Chambas, as well as the rest of the province.
The old lady Dolores Pérez, 72 years old, already enjoys her new home made of masonry and zinc roof, much better than the previous, and now with her own overlays it hands tiles the bathroom and the kitchen with eternal gratitude to the Revolution.
“Before this I lived in a pavilion with very bad wooden walls and now I have a comfortable house that I helped to build” refers this active woman who does not waste a minute for her personal well – being.
Her daughter, Lisandra Escobar, also lives in her new house, with her family, after being benefited with a state investment at lower cost and with payment facilities, like many residents of Punta Alegre and Punta San Juan.
In the northern area of Ciego de Avila people build with a state investment, self – effort and provided subsidies, despite the constraints entry of carpentry and roof elements, report officials from the Municipal Housing Department.
With a constant bustle of people in Punta Alegre and Punta San Juan, they have solved 54% of the damages of Hurricane Irma and authorities ensure that resources continue to arrive to gradually improve the housing stock.
