A total never recorded of 11, 6 megawatt hour generates the province of Ciego de Avila from industrial plants that use solar energy.

The largest of these has a capacity of five megawatts and it is located in the municipality of Chambas, another of 4,4 is operated in the town of Ceballos and doubles the one in the demarcation of Venezuela, which completes the figure known as photovoltaic parks.

Ramón Acosta Alvarez, president of Cubasolar in the territory, said that they helped since its launch to save more than 5,000 tons of fuel destined to thermal power plants.

The value of the investment for these groups of photovoltaic cells exceeded 18 million pesos and their use represent the reduction of emissions of about 15 thousand tons of carbon dioxide.

Generating 11.6 megawatt hour through the use of solar energy is a goal of Ciego de Avila and Cuba to achieve the use of renewable sources in at least one quarter of the energy matrix.
