The Water and Sewerage Company in Ciego de Avila repairs sections of ducts to remove large leaks, mainly in the capital city, where it is concentrated the largest population center in the province.
These days the pumping of water in the capital municipality was interrupted to replace a part of ducts in bad condition which comes out of the re pumping tank of the South conductor, which serves about 60 percent of the inhabitants of the location.
Guillermo Núñez Trujillo, director of Operations of the Provincial Water and Sewage Company, informed the local press that a pipe of 120 meters long and 800 millimeters in diameter was changed, where large volumes of liquid vital escaped, but, there is also the chlorine injection point that water requires.
Each month the province reports more than a thousand leaks, most of them are in the capital municipality, as there are very old pipes and not rank among the priority cities for greater investment aimed at rehabilitating supply systems and water drainage, he added.
In this situation, the actions are aimed at lifting and replacing sections of more defective pipes, because that way we could advance more with a better finish and where a change is made, several water leaks would be abolished, explained to the ACN Héctor Rosabales Pérez, General Manager of Water and Sewerage.
With the leaks removal program this year also rural communities of Punta Alegre and Las Palmas, in the municipality of Chambas, were benefited; and we are working in El Yarual, Bolivia, work that will let us recover almost one million cubic meters of vital water that today is lost through these ducts, deteriorated over the years and because of overexploitation, said the manager.
