A decrease in cancer deaths was recorded in the last quarter of this year in Ciego de Avila , according to information provided by the provincial statistics center.
Cancer of the cervix, lung, esophageal, and head and neck are the most prevalent among Avilanians who attended the Oncology Service hospitals Antonio Luaces Iraola, in the capital city, and Roberto Rodriguez, in Morón.
Dr. Saray López González, head of the group in the Antonio Luaces Iraola said that the effectiveness of drugs and their application, following the protocols contribute to the stopping of the disease and improve their quality of life.
Proper application of chemotherapy also allows satisfactory patient outcomes, as demonstrated by the high percentage of people over 15 years of survival.
López González added that these results are maintained despite the increase in new cases with this pathology and the high rate of patients with late diagnosis for not coming to the physician timely, decisive factor in curing and stopping the deadly disease.
