
Through a fruitful exchange of collaboration between the services of Orthopedics and Traumatology of provincial hospitals in Ciego de Avila and Camagüey, many patients from that second province were benefitted from minimal access surgery (arthroscopy).
The avilanian Osvaldo García Martínez and Alejandro Álvarez López, from Camagüey, both doctors of medical sciences, professors and Second Grade specialists in Orthopedics and Traumatology, form a duo that is complemented in performing minimally invasive surgeries and giving workshops with the purpose of training experts from the medical branch.
In the Provincial Hospital Manuel Ascunse Domenech of Camagiiey, it was recently conducted a National event on Knee Arthroscopy, which held as demonstration the first surgery activity done in that institution by the arthroscopically reconstructing technique with semimembranosus and semitendinous graft.
According to reports the colleague Olga Lidia Vilató, the operated patient was Kadel López Core, 20 years old and living in the municipality of Esmeralda, benefited from a surgical procedure at low risk of infection and rapid recovery to incorporate into his daily work.
The avilanian doctor Osvaldo García Martínez, is the coordinator of the Cuban Group of Arthroscopy, and he often imparts events for the theoretical and practical learning of such surgeries on knees and shoulders and their clinical and surgical invasion.
The Cuban orthopedics is getting closer to the restoration of bone lesions and ligaments through less aggressive and painful procedures for patients´ approval.
