Every August 13th, or a few hours before this day, Elvira Prado Companioni deposits a bouquet of natural or artificial flowers before a collection of photographs, with the image of Fidel Castro Ruz, that she has in front of her house, identified with the No. 4, Candido González street, in the Pogolotti neighborhood, at the avilanian town of Pina.

The outstanding Federated and ´Cederista´ invited her neighbors and, as usual, multiplied invitations for the new celebration. “The Grateful ones are back to accompany our Commander in Chief, who would have turned 93 years old next Tuesday. We anticipate this Sunday to celebrate his birthday because today there are more people in work break in our neighborhood and the coming day 13 activities will be massive in the country” , says the octogenarian avilanian.

She Fondles her white hair, taking in her hands one of the photos and, with tears on her face, she adds: ” I never forget the time that my husband was leaving the house to meet Fidel on the island of Turiguanó or his visits to centers labor of our territory; those appointments thrilled me as much as I feel now. By a happy coincidence, both were the same age and the same goals in the revolutionary struggle. “

She also adjusts the flowers in the historic seat of honor that members of the base organization of the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution created in the courtyard of her house, remembering her partner Rafael Nazco Sotolongo. “My husband had the idea of celebrating the birthday of our eternal leader, I always accompanied him in the preparations and conduct of the activity we celebrate for more than three decades and I will continue until my last breath”.
