The Ceballos Agro Industrial Company competes in the XXXVI International Fair of Havana FIHAV 2018 for the award for Product Quality with the Chile Habanero chili pepper, food that has wide acceptance in the international market.
Edelsis Marcel Gil, from foreign trade direction of the company, told ACN that this variety is primarily marketed to the European Union and some to Canada.
He also explained that they also compete in FIHAV 2018 with pineapple slices, a potential product for export, in which the variety MD-2 industrial cycle is being completed.
In this latter case the fruits that do not reach all the requirements for selling fresh way are carried to the industry, processed and sold, he said.
According to the specialist, this is the first time Ceballos has its own stand at FIHAV, since they were authorized this year to the export activity.
The company now feels more committed because it is responsible for food from planting until it reaches the customer’s table, he said.
He noted that exports go on favorably, and the marabou charcoal, highly demanded due to its quality, is taken to Turkey and other Middle Eastern countries, though it also goes to the European Union.
They come to buy Charcoal here, but have to go out and sell the other products, the demand is always higher than production and that is very beneficial for the country because we are talking about 25 thousand tons a year, only by our company, he said.
He commented that the areas that have been cleaned of marabú are now planted with fruit trees and other crops.
Marcel Gil anticipated that they have the aim to enhance the industrial products, such as grapefruit concentrate juice, juices and nectars of tropical fruits, natural essences, options that they work on today, but on a smaller scale.
Tonight it will be the closure of FIHAV 2018 at the Palace of Conventions in Havana, at which time they will be announced the winners of the event in various categories.
