Livestock producers in the province of Ciego de Avila contributed to import substitution by supplying to the dairy industry with about 16 million liters of cow’s milk from January to the end of October; this figure will increase with the stockpiles of November and December.
The purpose of the workers is to finish the year with the predicted 20 million liters and fulfill the provisions for the two pasteurizers installed, with the aim of achieving one of the highest volumes of recent times.
According to engineer Leonardo Pérez Rodríguez, Livestock Provincial Director, the efforts of breeders have increased and they trust that there will be an improvement in favor of the greening of pastures, although in several places the rains have disappeared, mainly in the municipalities of Morón , Ciro Redondo and Ciego de Avila.
Despite the obstacles due to the lack of wires and other resources, bovine mass is growing by births of calves, while state producers and cooperatives are stimulated by the price of milk, which is more than four pesos per liter to the provider, depending on its quality, added Pérez Rodríguez.
The agricultural production cooperatives and credit and services provided from January to October 80 percent of the total milk collected in the territory of Ciego de Avila, said engineer Frank Güemes Alonso, provincial vice president of the National Association of Small Farmers.
He also praised the outstanding municipalities in delivering the vital liquid, which were Baraguá , Chambas , Florencia , Ciego de Avila and Ciro Redondo.
Among the leaders in this work there is the family of the Chinea brothers, in Florencia, which every day provides about 60 liters of milk.
Ciego de Avila province has about 185 thousand hectares linked to cattle, between state and private livestock, many of them benefited by deliveries of lands, which were idle and full of marabou for several years.
